RESILIENCY INITIATIVES SPUR GROWTH AND ASSURE FUTURE FOR PALM BEACH COUNTY LOGISTICS INDUSTRY

As the Director of the Palm Beach County Office of Resilience, Houston’s responsibilities include developing and implementing plans to improve sustainability and minimize the effects of weather-related hazards on businesses and citizens.

The Office tackles resiliency challenges relevant to the County including sea level rise, urban heat island, alternative power sources, coastal erosion and other climate adaptation measures.

“An important part of my job is working with all interested parties in public service and in private industry to showcase how sustainability and resiliency are also good business,” states Houston.  “The programs we help to implement are designed to assure all Palm Beach County residents continue to enjoy our vibrant economy and natural environment while reducing vulnerabilities that might affect our future.”

According to Houston, the Department of Resiliency works with County government to estimate the return from sustainability initiatives today compared with the future cost of non-action.  For example, projects that reduce flooding can have a positive impact on business and home insurance rates.

Pharmaceutical logistics services provider WDSrx sits on the Logistics and Distribution Task Force of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County.  The group meets regularly to discuss regional transportation and distribution trends. Long-term growth in the industry requires investment in resiliency solutions that assure an efficient supply chain.

According to WDSrx Marketing Director Lawrence Hotz, “Advocating for resiliency initiatives is an important priority for WDSrx at our Palm Beach County headquarters and at all of our facilities throughout Florida and in New Jersey, Ohio and Texas. For this reason we are grateful for the contributions made by Director Houston and the Palm Beach County Office of Resilience.”
