Uploading memories and sending emotions through a text message sounds like science fiction, but these were just a few of the topics highlighted at The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium’s annual benefit “The Future of the Mind – An Evening with Dr. Michio Kaku and the Scientific Quest to Understand, Enhance, and Empower the Mind” on Thursday, March 30. Mary Freitas, Elizabeth Gordon and Caroline Cummings Rafferty chaired the event.

Academic Leaders Council Convene on April 18

The BDB convened the Academic Leaders Council on April 18 to continue the work it started on October 21, 2016. The council, comprised of Palm Beach County’s academic leaders, works to strengthen business and education partnerships. While October’s meeting focused on AAE, IT/Telecommunications, life sciences and trades, the dialogue on the 18th was focused on healthcare, distribution/logistics and manufacturing.

BDB and CareerSource PBC Host First Palm Beach County Internship Expo

The Business Development Board and CareerSource Palm Beach County organized the first Palm Beach County Internship Expo, an initiative to connect local talent with local businesses. The expo, held on April 13, 2017, was hosted at Palm Beach State College’s Lake Worth campus. Students from Palm Beach State College, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Florida Atlantic University, Lynn University, Nova Southeastern University and Keiser University attended to gain access to the robust internships available in the county.

FAU Joins Collaboration to Create Veterans’ Action Leagues

vetA pioneering veteran-oriented community engagement project, which commenced in December, is kick-starting an innovative campaign to comprehensively incorporate the input of veterans, researchers, and community members in the evolving dialogue around ways to improve veteran healthcare. Linda Weglicki, Ph.D., R.N., a professor and associate dean for nursing research and scholarship and Ph.D. studies and a Schmidt Family Foundation Distinguished Professor in the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University (www.nursing.fau.edu/) has been named as a collaborative academic research member on a multi-state project called “Veterans’ Action League,” (VAL), responsible for leading a dynamic two-year conversation empowering veterans to have an active voice in guiding veteran healthcare delivery.
